Visit to CSIR CIMAP

Dr Manoj Semwal, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR CIMAP, and the EES collaborated to arrange a departmental visit to the Central Institute of Medicinal & Aromatic Plants, Lucknow (CSIR-CIMAP) on 12th May 2023.

Dr Manoj Semwal has expertise in the application of cutting-edge technologies in agriculture, he has made significant contributions to the field of precision agriculture. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between traditional agricultural practices and modern technological advancements by exploring the potential of machine learning, IoT and drones.

During the workshop, Dr Semwal provided an overview of the fundamental concepts of machine learning and its application in precision agriculture. He explained how machine learning algorithms can analyze large datasets, identify patterns, and make accurate predictions related to crop health, pest infestation, soil moisture, and yield estimation. Participants gained insights into the role of machine learning in optimizing agricultural processes and improving productivity. He explained everything from the use of drones to collect raw data from the agricultural fields, stitching all the captured images, observing them to finally processing them to predict the crop health, growth and fertility of soils of different lands using different technologies.

Dr Semwal also focused on the role of drones in precision agriculture. Drones equipped with various sensors, such as multispectral and thermal cameras, can capture high-resolution images and data from agricultural fields. These drones provide farmers and researchers with valuable information about plant health, irrigation needs, and crop monitoring. Dr Semwal discussed the benefits of drones in precision agriculture, including enhanced data collection, cost-effectiveness, and increased efficiency.

To provide a practical learning experience, the workshop included hands-on demonstrations and practical exercises. Participants had the opportunity to see how drones work and explore machine-learning techniques in analyzing agricultural data. They gained first-hand experience in collecting data using drones, processing the collected data, and applying machine learning algorithms to extract meaningful insights.

Throughout the workshop, Dr Semwal encouraged participants to actively engage in discussions and ask questions related to machine learning, drones, and precision agriculture. The Q&A sessions provided valuable clarifications and allowed participants to deepen their understanding of the topics discussed. Additionally, the workshop provided networking opportunities, enabling participants to connect with like-minded individuals and explore potential collaborations in the field of precision agriculture.

With the knowledge gained from Dr Semwal's expertise, participants left the workshop equipped with valuable insights and inspiration to leverage machine learning and drones in their endeavours, developing advancements in precision agriculture for a sustainable and efficient future.

The students expressed their gratitude to the faculty advisor of EES, Dr Nitin Anand Shrivastava and Assistant Professor Er. Adeeb Ud Deen Ahmad for their constant guidance and support throughout the visit.

Visit to State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC)

A one day technical visit to State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) of Uttar Pradesh was organized for Electrical engineering students by Electrical department and EES on 9th October, 2021. SLDC is the prime body which is responsible for the integrated operation of power system in Uttar Pradesh. SLDC ensures the secure and economic working of the state grid and also carry out practical operations for grid control and electricity dispatch in the state. The SLDC works under RLDC which further works under NLDC. We would really thank our honorable HOD Dr. Seethalekshmi K Ma'am as well as the staff for organizing the visit. Here are a few glimpses of the same.

Inaguration of Tesla Hall: EES Library & Meeting Room

On 24th November 2018, the meeting room and library of EES, the Tesla Hall, was inaugurated by the hands of Alumni of the 1993 batch of the department in presence of Prof. Bharti Dwivedi ma'am. The inauguration was scheduled on the occasion of Convergence'18, the Silver Jubilee program of 1989-93 batch of the institute. The work of the library was started after it was announced in the Teacher's Day program. By the hard work of the Library Committee and other active members of EES from 2nd and 3rd year, the library has again come to a state to operate for the welfare of the students of the society. Special thanks to HOD sir, Prof. Kuldeep Sahay for providing curtains and a  roundtable along with cousin chairs for the hall. Also, head sir has agreed to give a desktop and a printer for the library. The society has also arranged a whiteboard, a clock and sheets for the windows from its fund.
